3. Wood workshop. Limited design process

Presenter: Edgars Kirilovs and Ilze Gutmane (Riga Technical university, Institute of Design Technology, Latvia)

Description: Within the theme, the main principles were presented to teachers how to involve children in creating things, encouraging, not being afraid and finding a compromise if needed to achieve a result.

During the session, there were demonstrations on how to teach children what is design process- how to understand the link between wishes and possibilities as there are several restrictions (e.g., client’s wishes, possible materials).

Nowadays this topic is actual and global. The workshop showed how to promote creativity with fast results. Teachers were able to transfer knowledge to the learning process with their pupils.

Format: The sessionwas divided in two parts that were organized indoors – a lecture in the classroom and practical work in the woodworking laboratory.
