Reconstruction of Krācējgrāvis Culvert in LVM Zemgale Region

1

JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM) structural unit “LVM Meža infrastruktūra” has completed the restoration works of Krācējgrāvis Culvert. A continuous culvert system has been used in the reconstruction of the culvert, which promotes restoration of the natural flow of the river, as well as reduces further formation of blockages and sediments.

The new culvert is made in the form of an asymmetrical ellipse of steel material, 15.5 m long, 1.83 m high and 2.49 m wide.

The two pre-installed reinforced concrete culverts had served their time and had to be replaced.
They were found to have crumbs, reinforcement outcrops and corrosion. The previous design type impeded the natural hydraulic flow of the river and posed the risk of bed clogging and flooding. Additional monitoring and maintenance investments were needed to detect and prevent them in a timely manner.
