Lithuanian State Forest Manager Gains Experience at LVM

Appreciating the experience of JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM) of more than 20 years in sustainable state forest management, on 12 August, representatives of the Lithuanian state forest management company “Valstinių miškai urėdija” visited Latvia to get acquainted with LVM basic principles and process organization management and to discuss opportunities for cooperation in the near future.

“In order to implement sustainable and responsible forest management in Lithuania, a state forest management company was established in 2018 with similar operating principles as in Latvia and other Baltic Sea countries, where efficient forest management takes place,” says Valdas Kaubre, Director VĮ “Valstybinių miškų urėdija”.

LVM experts introduced their Lithuanian colleagues to the experience and innovations of the last 20 years in state forest management in Latvia, organization of work processes in growing selected forest seedlings, planting and tending high-quality forests and production and sale of wood products suitable for Latvian wood processing companies.

At the end of the meeting, the representatives of both countries acknowledged the need to share experience in the implementation of efficient and sustainable forest management processes, agreeing on the development of a Memorandum of Cooperation, which would promote common, clear and reasonable principles of forest management in the neighbouring countries.

The parties agreed that the framework and preparation of the Memorandum of Understanding will be launched in the near future and it is planned to sign it mutually in the beginning of this autumn.
