Understanding the need for a tidy, accessible and peaceful environment for people with disabilities, JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM), together with representatives of Liepāja Society of the Blind, improved the territory of the social rehabilitation centre called the Soul Refreshment Garden (Dvēseles veldzes dārzs) by planting more than 130 spruces and lindens.
The Soul Refreshment Garden, which was started five years ago, has been created as a social rehabilitation and cognition centre. It features a Senses Park with flowers and shrubs, beds with edible bounties of nature and a fountain with a home-made clay mug at the top. Behind the Senses Park, there is the Thanksgiving Alley, the Barefoot Path, the Time for Peace building and other facilities.
“I am so happy that we are able to provide support in creating a suitable environment for people with disabilities, where you can enjoy peace, nature, the joy of life and harmony. We go to the forest every day to work, capture inspiration, breathe fresh air, strengthen immunity and indulge in leisurely walks or active recreation. Now in this park, such an environment is available for people with special needs, where you can refresh your spirit and body,” says Dace Gūtmane, Forest Management Planning Manager at LVM South Kurzeme Region.
