In order to prevent the risk of multiplication of forest pest populations, especially the European spruce bark beetle, immediate action by the forest owner is required when removing wood broken by winds or damaged by insects. JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM) invites interested parties to purchase technological wood and firewood, which are available after the development of areas damaged by spring winds.
“Technological wood is smallwood that is produced during the logging process in the course of reforestation, tending works or felling of damaged trees. Technological wood consists of a part of a tree trunk, which due to its dimensional or quality faults cannot be used in the production of valuable products – sawlogs, veneer logs, poles, building logs – including tree tops. Before 2018, we produced pulpwood from smallwood, mainly for the needs of the paper industry in the Baltic Sea region; however, in recent years local demand has changed significantly and buyers are interested in technological wood. It is a cheaper and more accessible product, which is produced from smallwood of different species, including dried wood that is comparable to the quality of firewood. We sell technological wood to Latvian companies, thus promoting local consumption on an industrial scale, and strengthening local business by providing additional jobs.
A relatively small number of customers responded to the offer for sale of technological wood and firewood announced in June, so we continue to identify opportunities to sell up to 100 thousand cubic metres of technological wood and firewood, planning deliveries until this September,” tells Andris Meirāns, LVM Deputy Director for Wood Product Manufacturing and Delivery.
Technological wood is made from the living part of the trunk or dead trees, it contains not less than 65% coniferous wood and not more than 35% deciduous wood.
Existing LVM contract partners and new customers are encouraged to apply for the cooperation by sending a message to the following e-mail address
LVM is among the most important suppliers of wood products in Latvia. For felling works, the company purchases logging services from companies operating on the free market in accordance with the requirements of the Public Procurement Law.
