An increasing number of people choose forests and well-maintained tourist sites as their holiday and recreational destinations. JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM) appreciates the desire of travellers to relax in a tidy and safe environment, therefore calls on forest visitors to park their vehicles responsibly, without interfering with the movement of other vehicles, forest machines and operative services, especially during the fire risk period.

LVM forest roads are single-lane two-way roads made for economic purposes, and their infrastructure elements, such as exit ways and turnaround areas, are designed for forest management needs.

“Improper parking can interfere with the planned forest works, forest fire protection, as well as other forest visitors and road users. You can temporarily park your car in one of the exit ways or turnaround areas. We recommend leaving your phone number in a visible place in your car to make sure that if necessary, you can quickly get to your car,” says Ivars Ozols, Forest Infrastructure Manager of LVM Kurzeme Region.

During the fire risk period, it is important to ensure undisturbed movement of emergency vehicles on forest roads. With the dry and sunny weather, the risk of fire in forests is increasing. LVM reminds that it is extremely important to avoid any open flames in the forest or in its immediate vicinity.

In forests and marshes, it is prohibited to:

  • Drop burning or smouldering matches, cigarette butts or other items;
  • Make fires (except in specially arranged sites, which prevent fire from spreading);
  • Leave fires unattended;
  • Burn waste;
  • Drive motor vehicles in forests and marshes off the road;
  • Perform any other activities that may cause a fire.
