On Saturday, 23 May, JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM) opened Tērvete Tarzan Park and Tērvete Net Park that are both located in the newest part of the park – the Land of Kurbads.

Tērvete Tarzan Park is suitable for all age groups and levels of physical fitness; it features eight obstacle tracks made in trees with a total of more than 100 different obstacles. The tracks are located from 1 to 10 metres above the ground.

Next to the Tarzan of Tērvete, those interested will find the largest net park in the Baltics – Tērvete Net Park. The trails of the net park are made in trees at a height of about 6 metres, and here you can enjoy exciting walks: a two-level labyrinth, trampolines, ball fields, a net tower, and houses in the trees high above the ground.

“LVM Nature Park in Tērvete grows every year, maintaining its current infrastructure and developing new facilities to promote active and environmental recreation in nature. We are very happy for everyone who, taking care of good quality and healthy leisure time, chooses to spend the free time in nature. It is an even greater joy for families who also encourage their babies to stay in the fresh air, taking a walk along forest trails. Currently focusing more on safety, responsibility and human values, we invite you to believe in the magic, joy and adventure of fairytales, to walk the fairytale forest trails, as well as to rise above the ground, take a walk safely and carefree among the tall and noble pine trees,” encourages Lilita Kauste, Head of the Information Centre of LVM Nature Park in Tērvete.

Last May, Tērvete bicycle park was opened in the new thematic part of LVM Nature Park in Tērvete  – the Land of Kurbads, opposite the parking lot.  The obstacle course of the trail has been constructed with the relief in mind, creating various hills, trampolines, turns and bridges at the lengths of almost 3 kilometres. There are also ten informational stations that let you know about the surrounding wildlife and processes happening in the forest. The bicycle trail is freely available to Tērvete residents and guests.

“LVM Nature Park in Tērvete is not only the largest recreation place in Northern Europe in terms of its area, but a forest with its own special story that dates back for more than 60 years. The bicycle adventure park in Tērvete opened a new page in the development of the LVM Nature Park in Tērvete – a new active recreation park with the added value of environmental education is gradually being created. The Land of Kurbads joins the world of Sprīdītis with warm childhood memories, stories and games, with sports activities, information about forest and a great adventure,” says the Head of the Information Centre of LVM Nature Park Tērvete.

Recreation opportunities during the period of emergency

The hiking trails of Latvia’s State Forest nature park in Tērvete are open to visitors and offer you to take a 35 km long walk on almost 400 ha of land. But we take the safety of our visitors seriously. That is why a few safety measures have been implemented:

  • The houses in the Dwarfs’ Town and the Wooden Tower are closed;
  • The fairytale characters for the time being do not communicate with the visitors, and a ride on the Fairytale Train is not available. We warmly invite you to choose a leisurely walk in nature on quieter trails and keep a safe distance from other forest friends.
  • The oldest and sunniest place of the park – Hornets Garden or Sun’s Mood Park will be perfectly suited for those who prefer to walk in scenic surroundings. This is where the first trails were born in 1958. Here you can overview the bands on the River Tērvete, as well as hills and valleys that are so uncharacteristic to the plains of Zemgale. This part of the park not only offers walks on long and steep stairs, but also sitting down and taking rest on the many benches located at the best viewpoints.

    Currently an especially impressive rebirth and renovation is going on at the Dwarfs’ Forest and town Čiekure – the thematic part of the LVM nature park in Tērvete. But the town has grown by a few more colourful and thematic houses. Now the number of houses has reached more than 40. However, due to the current situation, the houses are closed, but anyone can still take a walk in the streets of the Dwarfs Town.

    The Green Class will be suitable and exciting for hikers and nature explorers. Here you can walk along the trail of the friends of forest and the trail of the foes of forest, get to know all sorts of birds and insects living in the forest. Here you can explore the Animal Trail, learn about various inhabitants of Latvia's forests, their footprints and way of life.
