This year, forest planting in the areas managed by JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM) started unusually early – already in February, because the air temperature was warmer than the climatic norm. Currently, 85% of the area to be afforested in 2020 has already been completed, whereas planting works in Dienvidlatgale Region are scheduled to be completed this week.
“The first forecasts that the afforestation works would continue successfully as early as from February, however, did not come true. The cold nights and the relatively small amount of sun during the day introduced their own adjustments,” tells Edmunds Linde, LVM Forestry Planning Manager.
LVM started a stable planting season at the beginning of April, planting more than 1 400 ha of forest every week. More than 8440 ha of forest have already been planted, which is 85% of the 2020 target.
Such a successful and smooth spring season of forest planting works is possible thanks to the weather conditions and the availability of employees.
“Forest restoration is much more than just planting of seedlings. This is the work we invest in our future. It is a place where I have planted trees myself, and I know that when I come here after many years, I will see a good quality young stand and forest. It is such a pride to know that this is my work and my contribution,” says Igors Paramonovs, LVM Forestry Worker.
Forest restoration and maintenance work is entrusted to knowledgeable and responsible service providers. LVM provides work in forest in all regions of Latvia.
