When encountering forest animals, it is important not to approach them. This spring, you will often hear employees of JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM) telling about bears that they have met or seen in the course of their daily duties. Not far from Ķirbiži, a forest infrastructure specialist encountered a bear while inspecting facilities in Limbaži Forest District.
The encounter was a quite interesting one, because hearing someone approaching, the bear climbed up a tree.
“On my way to the facility, I first heard a noise. I just froze. Then I saw a black ball running up a tree. I was so excited to see something like this with my own eyes, it was like a forest greeting to me on my name day,” tells Edgars Krūmiņš, Vidzeme Region Forest Infrastructure Specialist, sharing his experience.
For a while, the bear lingered in the tree and having realized the situation, it began to climb down, while Edgars quietly left, choosing another route to the facility to be inspected.
Already at the end of March, LVM forestry master reported a bear baby that he had spotted.
As you go nature, you must always remember that every wild dweller is important to nature. Animals and birds should not be touched or otherwise disturbed. Large animal attacks on humans are very rare in Latvia. In most cases, animals try to avoid encounters with human beings.
