The new boating season has finally started and fishermen, fisherwives and their children will soon be conquering the waters of lakes and rivers with a relentless desire to catch the fish of their dreams. This year, Māris Olte, a friend of nature and fish, as well as an active fan of outdoor recreation, and JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM) invite you to take part in a new adventure in the lakes managed by LVM to explore the miracle that makes the fish “mother” grow so big. So far, responsible anglers have come together in a movement called “Release the Mother!” (Atlaid mammu!), and now we are starting a new adventure “Mother Nature in Waters” (Mammadaba ūdeņos).
We know that the large carnivores such as any measured pike reach their impressive sizes, surviving five, ten and even more years. Just like forest brothers in enemy-occupied territory. Without bunkers and opportunities to hide or leave their native underwater forests. Moreover, the bigger a fish grows, the harder it is to hide!
This fishing season has made us stop a bit in our “race for apparent success”. To stop. To look at everyday life differently, from a different perspective. As a result, more family gardens will be created in Latvia this year. Life in the countryside and farming closer to nature will be perceived differently.
Assessing people's desire to relax closer to nature, LVM maintains and improves more than 300 tourist sites every year. These are places where you can take safe steps along wooden footbridges, climb wooden observation towers, rise above the tree tops, regain strength, enjoy a meal in a wooden gazebo and indulge in other activities, learning the secrets of a well-tended and purposefully grown forest. Providing recreational opportunities is one of the three cornerstones of LVM's operations. A full and pleasant rest in the forest can inspire, strengthen and soothe.
Five years ago, with the responsible movement “Release the Mother!” we called on anglers to avoid catching and killing pikes as their main challenge. This recommendation made it “easier” to enjoy fishing without additional stress. Many anglers who followed this call valued being on the water as a more successful and nuanced pastime.
“Fighting tough for your catch is not the same as relaxing in an orderly environment, trying to catch a fish in Lake Kaņieris, Lake Lielauce, Lake Gulbji or Tērvete Reservoir. Watch the water, take a closer look and see not only the fish of your dreams, but also what this dream is made of. It is made of waterlouses, sulphur springs, diatoms, crayfish and black algae that have not sunk into the lake,” encourages Māris Olte.
Each fish in the lake carries a series of successful and excellent coincidences. A story that takes you to a meeting. It is just like in our lives – here on the ground, above the water.
Therefore, in the new season we will continue to respect and release mothers in LVM lakes, improve our skills, respect the “mother” of each lake and this year we will give you, our followers, an opportunity to learn a lot about the life UNDER water.
