“We looked at each other for at least a minute. Then I started filming it through the car window so as not to scare the baby bear. It looked so small and cute. However, very soon the bear noticed me, hid behind tree trunks, gave his curious director one last look and ran away. The baby’s mother probably was hiding behind a tree nearby,” Juris Āboliņš, Logging Specialist at JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM) Rietumvidzeme Region, tells about his unexpected rendezvous in Ārciems, Limbaži Municipality.
He says that being in a forest is a real adventure. “It has been a year since I changed my daily office to work in the forest, and during that time I have seen so many forest animals! I have seen so many plants and processes in the forest that I had not seen in my entire life before. So how many people can live in their forest office sharing it with a couple of owls, or, for example, a lynx trying to go unnoticed behind the branches of a spruce tree cut down in the wind? Being in the forest every day and taking care of top-quality forest stands is a real happiness,” tells the Logging Specialist.
LVM Environmental Expert Aigars Kalvāns once met a moose in LVM Vidusdaugava Region; moose is the largest forest mammal in Latvia.
“As you go nature, you must always remember that every wild dweller is important to nature. Usually, when meeting a human being, animals will run away, but it is very important to respect any wild animal and not to disturb them.”
