To tell about the achievements of our track and field athletes, JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” (LVM) Customer Centre in Riga, at 1 Vaiņodes Street, hosts a photo exhibition titled “Vieglā atlētika” (Light Athletics). This exhibition of works by Juris Bērziņš-Soms will be open to visitors until 10 April. The opening of the exhibition, together with the author of the works and the main protagonists of the photos took place on 10 March.
The exhibition features twenty large-format black and white photos that show the athletes of Latvia at the Olympic Games, World and European Championships, as well as various local competitions.
“Track and field athletics is often called the queen of all sports. And it is a well-deserved title, because the fundamentals of track and field athletics are at the heart of every athletic movement. Running, throwing, and leaping take tremendous strength, determination, all-round physical fitness and mental strength. In my black-and-white photographs, I tried to reveal the essence of this very popular sport,” tells Juris Bērziņš-Soms, the author of the exhibition, who has been focusing on sports photography already since 1968, when he himself was a well-known athlete.
An important area of LVM social responsibility is support to public benefit projects in Latvia. Every year, a part of the company's profit is allocated to support charity, cultural, sports and educational projects of national significance.
The amount of the donations for the promotion of sports is distributed among five organisations: the Latvian Sports Federation Council, the Latvian Olympic Committee, the Latvian Team Sports Association, the Latvian Paralympic Committee and the Council of Directors of Latvian Sports Education Institutions.
