At the end of last year, JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM) started improvement works on the nature trail “Kaltenes Kalvas”, which is popular with many hikers in Kurzeme. These works will improve the safety and accessibility of the nature trail.
The dead trees, which had become dangerous for the visitors to the trail, have already been felled and almost all have been removed, but for safety reasons some of the felled trees will remain in the area. The structures of the footbridge will also be restored, preserving their routes.
Renovation and improvement of the Nature Trail “Kaltenes Kalvas” is planned to be completed by the new tourist season; meanwhile visitors are encouraged to choose another walking route as the nature trail is closed. For inspiration for new adventures visit www.mammadabakarte.lv
This nature trail is known for its large rock heaps. These are unique formations that are not to be found anywhere else on the Latvian coast. The mossy, forest-covered ridge-like rock formations were formed thousands of years ago as the Baltic Ice Lake retreated.
LVM has created more than 350 free recreation areas throughout Latvia, and they are cleaned and improved every year.
