Until 11 October, those interested were invited to apply for forestry works in the tender announced by JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM) for forest planting, young stand tending, agro-technical tending and restoration works for the time period 2020-2024. It is a job opportunity for people from all regions of Latvia with different skills and experience in forest works. Applicants could apply for the tender through the Electronic Procurement System (EIS), which can easily and securely be used remotely.
“We have noticed that the offer in forestry jobs seems attractive to both men and women. It is important that a person wishes to work and develop professionally. We are pleased that we have acquired reliable and knowledgeable partners in the regions of Latvia who apply for forestry works every year. For the majority of them, work in the forest is a permanent source of income, but for others it is an opportunity to earn additional income,” says Lauris Ropājs, LVM Forestry Quality Manager.
Juris Pūce from Limbaži shares his experience in forestry works: “I've been working with LVM for 15 years. This autumn, I am responsible for almost 250 hectares of forest where young stand tending must be carried out. To new service providers applying for the tender I can suggest to start with a small job, that is, to contract a small forest area as an additional profit in your spare time. And then, depending on the experience gained, gradually increase the scope of work. Moreover, it is not necessary to have a great deal of experience in this area, just a desire to work. On the technical side, nothing more than a saw and brush cutter is needed. Of course, special clothing will be useful, because not every day the weather is warm and sunny in forest. There is competition for forestry works, just like in other areas, but there is no need to worry if the work is done in good faith and quality.”
Over the next five years, together with our partners we plan to carry out forestry operations in 166 875 hectares. LVM will conclude contracts with the successful tenderers for a period of one, three or five years. Works are planned in 66 forest districts in all regions of Latvia.
