In order to ensure timely and high-quality forest management and restoration, JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM) announces an open tender for forest planting, young stand tending, agro-technical tending and restoration works in 2020-2024. Contractors with or without forestry experience are invited to take part in the tender. Tender proposals should be submitted in the electronic procurement system (EIS) by 11 October; 12.00.
“We have noticed that the offer of forestry jobs seems attractive to both men and women. It is important that a person wishes to work and develop professionally. We are pleased that we have acquired reliable and knowledgeable partners in the regions of Latvia who apply for forestry works every year. For the majority of them, work in the forest is a permanent source of income, but for others it is an opportunity to earn additional income,” says Lauris Ropājs, LVM Forestry Quality Manager.
Potential contractors are invited to apply for one or several forestry jobs under the tender: afforestation (19 960 ha), replenishment of reforested areas (2 869 ha), agro-technical tending of reforested areas (52 084 ha), tending of young stands (49 942 ha), protection of restored forest areas (32 155 ha) and protection of young tree trunks (9 865 ha).
LVM will conclude contracts with the successful tenderers for one, three or five years. Works are planned in 66 forest districts in all regions of Latvia.
The service providers will receive their assignments electronically in the LVM mobile application, which indicates the coordinates of the workplace in the forest. After completion and quality control of the works according to LVM requirements, the partner will receive payment.
“Over the next five years, together with our partners we plan to carry out forestry operations in 166 875 hectares. This is a great opportunity for people from all regions of Latvia to apply for jobs with different skills and experience in forest work, and different work packages allow you to work in the forest all year round. For the second year running, the tender proposals are submitted through the electronic procurement system that makes it secure, fast and easy to use remotely,” says Edmunds Linde, Head of LVM Silviculture Planning.
Thanks to forest management works, LVM gives additional job opportunities for local people in the regions. These are both seasonal jobs, which can be organized by the contractors in parallel with their daily work, as well as various permanent jobs. Brush cutter and chainsaw operator's license is required for agro-technical and young stand tending, as the work often takes place in such young stands, which require the use of a chainsaw.
The tending of young forest stands is carried out in order not only to create a suitable growth composition and to improve the conditions for growing trees (thus also reducing the costs of future logging) but also to reduce the risk of snow and wind damage, to preserve and create the diversity of species, visual quality, as well as cultural and historic heritage.
