In individual disciplines, Latvian representatives will demonstrate their skills in athletics, swimming, gymnastics, tennis, judo, wrestling and cycling. In total, 50 young European athletes between the ages of 14 and 18 will test their athletic skills at the Olympics Festival.
“Educated, target-oriented and strong-minded young people form a Latvia that we will be proud of and happy with. Thank you for the hard work that you do every single day to reach a result that you dream of and that will bring you medals and satisfaction. Good luck!” says Gints Bumbieris, LVM Vice President of Finance, addressing the young athletes and presenting the large Latvian flag to Aldonis Vrubļevskis, the President of the LOC (Latvian Olympic Committee). This flag will be carried by judo wrestler Una Dolgiļeviča at the opening ceremony, which is to take place on 21 July.
The president of the LOC emphasizes the opportunity for young people to get to know the atmosphere of the Olympic events: “I wish the young athletes and talents to prove themselves, to do their best, to achieve their best at the Olympics Festival in Baku, and to return home satisfied and inspired for further work. So far, Latvian athletes have participated in all but the first European Youth Olympics Festival and have won more than 30 medals.”
