It is Important to Purchase Mixtures of Mineral Materials Legally

With the increasing demand for sand, sand-gravel or mineral mixtures for the construction and home improvement works, the illegal extraction of these materials, both in mineral extraction sites and forestlands, is increasing. JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM) would like to point out that the extraction of sand and gravel outside the mineral extraction sites has a negative impact on the environment and is prohibited by criminal liability.

As a result of geological exploration, certain areas or mineral deposits have been identified throughout the country. “In order to obtain and use the mineral resources for economic activity, a permit from the State Environmental Service - a licence for the use of subterranean resources or a permit for the extraction of mineral resources frequently issued by local governments, must be obtained. The creation of a mining site is a long and laborious process, which also involves a substantial financial contribution: geological exploration, preparation and receipt of various permits and technical regulations, design and quarrying. After receiving the permit and starting the mining works, the owner must continue to invest in the maintenance of the site's infrastructure, guarding, accounting and recultivation,” says Kristīne Ansone, Director of “LVM Zemes dzīles” (LVM Subsoil).

LVM employees work with the company's contractual partners, local residents and municipalities to guard the mining sites.

“In the area managed by LVM, more than 100 mining sites have been created and opened, where mineral materials can be purchased by both natural persons and legal entities, being sure that all the materials will be taxed and that the extraction of mineral materials will be legal. By selling mineral materials and their mixtures, LVM issues quality assurance documents: a declaration of performance and CE, explaining the indications in the documents certifying quality,” says Kristīne Ansone.
