This weekend, anyone who has forest in their hearts has the opportunity to get together in the largest forest awareness event in the Baltics - the Latvian Forest Days that is taking place in Tērvete. On 24 May, the day devoted to schools, winners of various competitions were awarded; we also determined the winners of the LVM Forest Game, and schoolchildren were introduced to the forest at more than 80 exploratory stops in the vast Land of Kurbads. On 25 May, the day devoted to families, there are educational stands, as well as a range of festive opening events. See you there!
“Spring forest restoration works are coming to an end, so this is the right time to tell both the old and the young, teachers and students about the role and importance of forest tending works and their quality. The newest part of Latvia’s State Forests Nature Park in Tērvete - the Land of Kurbads - provides an opportunity to see the forest management cycle in a real environment: renewal felling, planting, various tending works.
More than 10 000 schoolchildren from all regions of Latvia visited the park on the school day to gain new knowledge and have fun. Today, on the family day, dads will have the opportunity to see forest machines, saws and other tools in action, moms will appreciate new ways of creating useful things from forest materials, as well as the opportunity to get acquainted with good quality seedlings for their gardens. Children, in turn, will definitely be happy to meet Pigman and take part in various activities such as archery, tree climbing, as well as to enjoy a bath of cones and find your treasure in a sand pile.
“LVM highly values the power of families and being together, so to invite you to spend your free time in the forest, we will give you a free entrance ticket to visit Latvia's State Forests Nature Park in Tērvete,” says Tomass Kotovičs, Head of LVM Communication Unit.
There will be a number of different challenges, surprises and a lot of fun! At 11.00 – opening of the “Smart Tree” exhibition at the entrance to the LVM Nature Park in Tērvete; at 12.00 – opening of Tērvete Adventure Bicycle Park and a bicycle race; at 13.00 – a hunting dog parade at the stage and at 14.00 there will be “Stirnu buks” trail running race for children.
“Also last year our company took part in the Latvian Forest Days. It was one of the best events of the last five years. It is a unique experience to see how many different processes take place in the forest and how lives of so many people are related to it. You can feel that for these people it is not just a job, it is a life conviction - to live in harmony with forest and its processes!
Talking from the professional perspective - it is a pleasure to meet so many children, young people on the school day, while on the family day we can address adults about the processes taking place in the forest and about our place in them. Last year, we talked about safety at work with chainsaw and the importance of safety measures. Yesterday, we tried to focus on good protective equipment, and today we will show how special protective pants can stop a rotating saw chain. We will also present the new 550XP Mark II chainsaw. In our stand you can also see several historical models of Husqvarna chainsaws,” says Mārtiņš, a representative of SIA “Husqvarna Latvija”.
First day of the Latvian Forest Days 2019
The first day of the Latvian Forest Days at the Forest Industry Festival in Tērvete was devoted to schoolchildren and young people. The winners of various competitions were honoured: we awarded the scholarship recipients of the LVM Forest Day 2019 sticker competition, winners of the “For a Clean Latvia!” (Tīrai Latvijai) campaign organised by the association “Zaļā josta”.
During the day there was also the final competition of the LVM Forest Game 2019; Irlava Elementary School was announced the winner of the competition and will go on a forest expedition to Austria!
“The key to success is a good teacher who can motivate, understand and inspire. We are happy about our teacher and our team. This time, we were really keen on winning, because this is the third year that we participate in the Forest Game. And this year is ours,” shortly after announcing the results, Irlava school team share their joy.
Congratulations!
