JSC "Latvia's State Forests" has Allocated Its Donations to Social Projects
On 8 March, the recipients of social donations granted by JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM) - non-governmental organisations, the projects of which were recognised as the best by the target donation board, gathered for an informative project implementation seminar and conclusion of contracts at “Ziedot.lv” office.
This year, 57 organisations received a target donation of 313 907 euros from LVM. Altogether 165 public benefit organisations submitted applications for the tender procedure for a total of 1.2 million euros.
“For eight years, LVM has been supporting socially important initiatives throughout Latvia. The project tender is a great practice for getting financial support for the best professionals in their field. Despite the huge number of project applications this year, in the fierce competition we have identified the best and most important initiatives that we hope will bring social benefits and improve the quality of life of those who need it most in all regions of Latvia,” says Rūta Dimanta, Head of “Ziedot.lv”, adding that the implementation of the supported projects will be closely followed.
The donation was divided into four priority areas of social assistance:
Assistance to children and adults with special needs: 17 projects will be implemented in the amount of 133 466 euros. Projects will provide a special assistant service for severely ill children, sporting activities for children and young people with functional disabilities, educational camps for disabled children and low-income families, various creative and sporting activities, and tailor-made training and development facilities for children and young people with special needs to promote the acquisition of social skills for specific needs.
Assistance to socially vulnerable groups: 17 projects will be implemented in the amount of 105 240 euros. Projects will provide support to pregnant women and children of a crisis centre in Latgale, support to the Latvian Disabled Women's Handicraft Association “Saulgrieze”, a mentor programme for families that will host children from orphanages, support to oncology patients and many other valuable programmes.
Support to retirement age people to help them lead dignified and active life: 13 projects will be implemented in the amount of 39 443 euros. Projects will include excursions and experience exchange trips, creative and sporting activities, support for creative groups, and many other activities that will encourage and help them to lead an active life.
Support for the integration of different groups of the society: 10 projects will be implemented in the amount of 35 757.63 euros. Projects will provide people belonging to social exclusion groups, including persons in prisons, with basic computer skills, woodworking lessons for children and young people, seniors, talent competition for children and young people with hearing problems, various creative and sporting activities, and many other activities.
Since 2012, LVM has entrusted management of the company's donations to the social sector to three charity organisations: “Ziedot.lv”, “Latvia Children's Fund” and “Samaritan Association of Latvia”. They have set up a targeted donation board that administers and distributes financial resources to social organisations.
