As a result of successful cooperation, the reconstruction of the 3 742 km long forest road "Dišupu ceļš" (Dišupi Road) in LVM Zemgale Region has been completed. Thanks to favourable weather conditions and experienced builders, the road reconstruction was completed on 31 October 2018.
"In the tactical plan, the commissioning of the road was scheduled for 2019. The reconstruction of nearly 4 km of road in three months was a major challenge. It was possible thanks to the experience of SIA "Ceļu būvnieks", the weather condition favourable for road construction, as well as the good infrastructure of the nearby roads, which facilitated intensive transportation of materials and easy access to the road both at the beginning and at the end of the route. The reconstruction of the road was hampered by private properties and habitats, at the expense of which the road route could not be extended, as a result of which all the invalid soil had to be transported to the adjacent ramparts," says Gatis Vīksne, LVM Zemgale Region Forest Infrastructure Specialist.
In the course of road rebuilding, testing of the soil was performed at the site. Test results showed that it was not necessary to take a frost-resistant sand layer from the quarries, since the sand granulometric composition corresponded to the specifications of forest road construction works. Thus, the required amount of sand was provided at the facility. For this purpose, the sand was extracted from the digging of ditches and subsoil exchange, digging off the useless soil and stumps in the rampart area, which together amounted to more than 6000 cubic metres.
To ensure forest management and economic activity in state forests, JSC "Latvia's State Forests" constructs new and rebuilds existing forest roads, which are used for forest protection and safety works and to ensure convenient and safe movement of people. The benefits of the rebuilt Dišupi Road will also be appreciated by nature lovers who will be able to easily access their favourite berry and mushroom sites and discover new hiking trails in the woods. The road will also provide a convenient ride to the Brothers' Cemetery, which until now has been difficult for car owners in unfavourable weather conditions.
