On 2-5 August, the 33rd World Logging Championship took place in Lillehammer, Norway, and the Latvian team showed excellent results.
Logger Pēteris Ķepītis won the gold medal in bucking by combined cuts discipline in the U24 group, while Anatolijs Seļivanovs ranked fourth in bucking by combined cuts discipline in the Profi group. Pēteris Ķepītis entered the top six of the fitting another chain discipline, replacing the chain in 12.28 minutes.
Anatolijs Seļivanovs won the highest total score among Latvian participants and got the 26th place. Latvia ranked 13th in the team ranking, overtaking such forestry countries as Finland, Sweden and Norway. Loggers from Belarus, Germany and Austria demonstrated excellent results in this championship, taking the first, second and third places accordingly.
Latvian team in the World Logging Championship
In the championship 118 participants from 27 countries demonstrated their skills in five disciplines: felling, fitting another chain, bucking by combined cuts, precision bucking and limbing.
The World Logging Championship is held every two years by the International Association Logging Championships (IALC), and the next championship is to take place in Serbia in 2020. The Latvian national team in the IALC World Championships is represented by the “Meža sports” (Forest Sports) association.
