On 27 June, the Embassy of Latvia's State Forests will host the Forestry Day to tell all interested about the future of Latvian forests – about young forest stands.
From 12 to 16, in specially arranged plots, visitors will have an opportunity to perform various practical tasks concerning the tending of young forest stands. During the event, professionals will respond to questions and provide advice on forest management and care.
From 16 to 17, there will be a presentation on various issues related to the tending of young forest stands. You will find out why forests need to be tended, what are the requirements of quality, nature and labour protection, as well as what modern technologies can be used for the monitoring and protection of young forest stands.
Throughout the day, visitors will have an opportunity to watch an informative film about tending of young forest stands, as well as receive informative materials about young forest stands published by JSC "Latvia's State Forests" (LVM). The youngest visitors will be encouraged to sharpen their minds through solving various tasks.
The tending of young forest stands is carried out in order not only to create a suitable growth composition and to improve the conditions for growing trees (thus also reducing the costs of future logging), but also to reduce the risk of snow and wind damage, to preserve and create the diversity of species, visual quality, as well as cultural and historic heritage.
The Embassy of Latvia's State Forests is a place to have a dialogue with forest, and take a small part of forest home with you. The Embassy in Riga, at 1 Vaiņodes Street, is open on weekdays from 9:00 to 18:00, and on Saturdays from 9:00 to 15:00.
