With the arrival of January, most of Latvia's forest is covered with snow – brilliant whiteness, which delights people's eyes and warms the earth.
In the cold season of the year, in spite of the unusual calm there are no less interesting events taking place in nature than in summer. Animals that have not gone to warmer places tend to leave some very interesting traces - from burrows and food leftovers to footprints. The main challenge for forest inhabitants is to survive until the temperature rises above zero and not to become a tasty morsel for a larger predator. This is especially true for crested tits and sparrows.
Here you can watch a short film about forest events in the first month of the year.
