JSC "Latvia's State Forests" (LVM) has been nominated for the Latvian Open Technology Association (Latvijas atvērto tehnoloģiju asociācija - LATA) Annual Award 2017 in the category "Most Open Institution". The company has been nominated for the award for the provision of open and accessible geospatial data and services by publishing free-access geospatial data, services, as well as various free tools and an open source automation and scripting platform.
The winners of the main prize will be named at the LATA Annual Conference "Open Technologies - from Data to Knowledge" held on 1 February 2018. Māris Kuzmins, Director LVM Business System Solutions, will also deliver his presentation "Opening Geospatial Data and Providing Free Access Services - Experience of JSC "Latvia's State Forests"" at the conference.
LVM works in the geospatial information technology sector, offering its products and services, as well as promoting the development of the industry, the availability of geospatial technology and data to both any Latvian company and individual. LATA brings together organisations and individuals, including IT suppliers and users who see economic benefits of a wider use of open technologies in Latvia. The purpose of the LATA Annual Awards is to highlight and appreciate the contribution of the private and public sector, academic circles and private individuals to the development, use and promotion of open information and communication technologies in Latvia. Prizes are awarded in three categories: "Most Open Institution", "Most Excellent Business Technology Solution" and "Most Important Contribution to Promotion of Open Technologies".
