Thematically binding creativity and forest young stands, an exhibition of paintings was opened on 6 November, presenting the best works submitted by students of the Art Academy of Latvia for the scholarship competition "Latvia's State Forests Scholarship in Art". The works nominated for the scholarship will be exhibited at the LVM Customer Centre (1 Vaiņodes Street, Riga) from 1 to 30 November, when the winner of the competition - the recipient of a scholarship of EUR 1500 - will be announced.
According to Inese Bauģe, a representative of the Art Academy of Latvia, the competition was very popular among students, and a total of 45 students applied for the contest presenting 61 works. The competition jury, which consists of three representatives of JSC "Latvia's State Forests" (LVM), as well as the Rector of the Academy Prof. Kristaps Zariņš, Asoc. Prof. Andris Vītoliņš and Department of Painting Prof. Aleksejs Naumovs have this year nominated 11 finalists (Laura Veļa, Eduards Dubrovskis, Agnese Kaupere, Kristaps Priede, Anna Pommere, Zoja Golubeva, Ansis Rozentāls, Kristīne Kutepova, Anna Pabērza, Ella Mežule, Madara Kvēpa) whose works take part in the exhibition. The final decision on granting the scholarship will be announced on 30 November, at the closing event of the exhibition that will be held to thank all participants for their time and energy invested in creating the beautiful works.
The scholarship competition this year for the first time is organised by JSC "Latvia's State Forests" in cooperation with the Art Academy of Latvia. The scholarship aims to promote student awareness of the forest as the largest renewable resource in Latvia, which is constantly growing. The theme of the contest is "Forest Grows", and students had a task to link creativity with young-growth forests.
The decision on granting the scholarship will be made by a jury, assessing the contestants' artistic professionalism and work compliance with the creative task of the competition. More information and the contest regulation are available at http://www.lvm.lv/maksla
