A number of companies actively engaged in the use of the geospatial information technologies (GIT), including JSC "Latvia's State Forests" (LVM), in co-operation with the Latvian GIS Society will host the Latvian Geospatial Information Technology Conference, which is to take place at the Academic Centre for Natural Sciences of the University of Latvia on 8 December. The conference aims at creating a common understanding of the Latvian geospatial information technology sector, its challenges and development trends.
The conference programme includes presentations by local geospatial information policy makers and promoters, as well as by geospatial information technology developers. The conference will focus on such topics as achievements, current challenges, experience of foreign representatives and other relevant topics.
"This conference is a great opportunity to get acquainted with the latest projects and trends in the GIS industry. The majority of industry professionals and organisations, including universities, will be represented at the conference. We will also have foreign guests who will speak about challenges faced in their countries," says Māris Kuzmins, Executive Director LVM Business System Solutions
A total of 18 Latvian and foreign experts have been included in the provisional conference programme, among them: Ints Lukss, Member of the Board of MikroKods Ltd, Rolands Rihters, LVM Geospatial Solutions Architect, Toms Ceļmillers, System Analyst at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, Agnis Rečs, Researcher at the Faculty of Geography and Earth Sciences of the University of Latvia, and others.
This kind of conference in Latvia has not taken place for several years. Different area-specific themes and issues have been touched upon in a number of occasions during events hosted by different organisations. However, this is an opportunity for all stakeholders to exchange the latest information, to gain an insight into the latest trends, and to get involved and promote the development of the geospatial information technologies in their organisation or company.
Participation in the conference is free of charge. However, the number of participants is limited; therefore we invite all interested to apply for the conference as soon as possible by completing the application form to be found here: http://gisbiedriba.lv/lv/Registration
