It's Time to Yield to Nature

mammadaba laujies dabai

When Mother Nature is teasing us with heavy storms and unusual coolness for a summer, it is time for the new release of the Mother Nature magazine "Yield to Nature" (Ļaujies dabai). This time, readers are encouraged to surrender to the charms of nature. Some will try to hunt marvellous landscapes, others will spend time in backyard meadows collecting herbs for delicious tea for the long autumn and winter evenings.

If the changing weather has taken all your strengths away, it is worthwhile to go to a nearby forest to build up some energy. There, in a natural pharmacy, you can strengthen your body and spirit with the well-known and beloved blueberry, which is a real anti-oxidant ball. It is also worth remembering plants that we might have missed in our daily rush. Do you still remember the meadowsweet? It will fit perfectly in your morning cup of tea.

In case the backyard meadow has already been cut down, you can go to Zemgale - there you will definitely find some valuable herbs in the meadows next to the wide variety of tourist attractions offered in this region. For this purpose, it is also worth visiting places like Mount Kartavkalns Nature Trail with its tree alleys and picturesque hills, or the historic Hill Ložmetējkalns.

A longer weekend may be spent enjoying views opening up from viewing towers on the shores of the River Daugava. Everyone will find something close to their heart. Zaķusala television tower will appeal to those who love cities, while the Mount Lazdukalns tower will open breathtaking view of the treasures stored in the valley of the River Daugava.

If you are planning a trip to Kurzeme, it is worth including the Mount Elles (the Mount of Hell) in Jaunpils Municipality in your route. Legends say that here the devil himself has appeared, but perhaps he was not like we remember from our childhood tales and stories. After a busy day, travellers are invited to relax in LVM Tourism and Recreation Centre "Spāre" - a peaceful and beautiful place on the shore of Lake Gulbji.

To learn about how the Midsummer Night is celebrated in Līgatne region, you should visit Vidvuds and Iveta Medenis, folklorists, radio personalities and active travellers, who will be happy to share their knowledge and experience.

Just mark the places on your map and hit the road!

Already for the ninth year, JSC "Latvia's State Forests" has been issuing the Mother Nature magazine, informing its readers about the major recreation facilities, managed by LVM, about nature trails, marsh footbridges, towers, caves, lakes, trees, and other treasures to be found in the forest.
