Despite the harsh weather, already for the tenth time the Big Clean-up, the greatest environmental clean-up event in Latvia, took place on 22 April. JSC "Latvia’s State Forests" (LVM) has been supporting the Big Clean-up already since its very beginning and would like to remind people in Latvia to take care of clean environment and forests every day.
This year, LVM employees together with President Raimonds Vējonis, local residents, schoolchildren, scouts and guides and children from Madona Municipality care centre "Ozoli" helped to restore and clean up Kokmuiža Park in Kocēni, planting trees and ornamental shrubs.
In turn, Pigman (Cūkmens), the patron of clean forests, on the day of the Big Clean-up visited the neighbourhood of Jelgava, where he worked hand in hand with students of Jelgava Primary School No. 2 and inhabitants of Jaunsvirlauka.
Although the annual Big Clean-up has come to an end, LVM continues to hold forest clean-up and environmental education activities, such as the Open Forest Days, as well as special forest expeditions for students of general education schools. Reforestation works are carried out on a regular basis and this year it is planned to restore 8 000 hectares of forest.
