Andreja Upisa Skriveru vsk 9.kl Agate Albekeite2

The slogan "Learning about Forest" this year brought together more than 1 000 school students who participated in the annual Forest Days sticker contest organised by JSC "Latvia's State Forests" (LVM). This year, it was quite a challenge for the jury to choose only one work; therefore in addition to the main prize the jury also presented two special awards. Agate Albekaite, a 9th grade student of Andrejs Upīts Skrīveri Secondary School, was chosen as the winner of the "Forest Days 2017" sticker contest, while the special awards were presented to Diāna Ozoliņa, a 2nd grade student of Bauska Elementary School, and Eduards Jaujenieks, a 2nd grade student of Aknīste Secondary School. Congratulations!

"The winner will be presented a "Lokalboards" skateboard manufactured in Latvia, as well as an opportunity to head for the new Forest Expedition free of charge together with her classmates. The expedition will be guided by LVM experts, and participants will explore the role of forest management, and see with their own eyes how different tasks are performed in forest work stations. In turn, surprise gifts from Mother Nature (Mammadaba) will be presented to the winners of the special awards.

“The students' task was to create a design for stickers of the annual LVM Forest Days. We received so many good quality works that for the very first time, the jury also nominated recipients of special prizes. All the three selected drawings will turn into stickers, which will be given to the Forest Days participants," says Anda Sproģe, a representative of the jury and LVM School Coordinator.

Every year, LVM calls on schools and other nature enthusiasts to participate in the annual Forest Days events that take place in different places all over Latvia. This year, school students will have an opportunity to participate in the educational Forest Expedition and discover what, how and why is done in the forests managed by LVM, as well as to find answers to different questions, such as for how long the tree grows and what happens when it stops growing.

We would like to thank all the contest participants. We will be very happy to see you in the LVM Forest Days!
