During the year, we have experienced new challenges, overcome various obstacles and reached new heights. In particular in sports activities. On 2 December, the most outstanding young athletes and their coaches were greeted at a festive ceremony that took place at JSC "Latvia's State Forests" Customer Centre in Riga.
Weightlifting, swimming, figure skating, BMX, beach volleyball, skiing, canoeing, javelin throwing - these are only a few of the sports disciplines where the young athletes have demonstrated excellent performance at both European and global competitions, including the Rio Olympics.
"I would like to thank JSC "Latvia's State Forests" for its support and encouragement to our promising young athletes. Thanks to this support and common goals, our athletes can develop their skills and abilities to overcome new challenges. The transparent donation policy, which ensures that funds are managed by a particular organisation, allows supporting the most crucial areas. We have come here today to congratulate our most outstanding young athletes and their teachers. I wish you all the best in your future endeavours and thank you," said Kārlis Šadurskis, the Minister for Education and Science, addressing the audience.
Līga Abizāre, the creator of JSC "Latvia's State Forests" (LVM) school programme, also congratulated the prize-winners from different schools in Latvia: "Nature inspires us to new achievements, challenges and victories. Forest is not just a place where we can relax - it can also be our stadium, which gives us energy to become even faster, more precise and successful. I hope that you will draw inspiration from nature and there will be many more victories in the future!"
In 2016, LVM donated two million euros for the development of sports, entrusting distribution of the amount to LVM co-operation partners in sports area. Next year, the amount of the donation for development of sports will be distributed among five organisations: the Latvian Sports Federation Council, the Latvian Olympic Committee, the Latvian Team Sports Association, the Latvian Paralympic Committee and the Council of Directors of Latvian Sports Education Institutions.
