Waiting for the winter solstice, the great Christmas tree was lit up in "LVM Sēklas un stādi" (LVM Seeds and Plants) Jelgava Nursery. The beautiful tree shows that in the nursery there are green decorations for everyone. Fir-trees of different breeds and sizes in pots, if properly tended, will last for many Christmases, while eco decorations made of natural materials will be an affectionate gift for loved ones or a special adornment for the Christmas tree.
The Christmas tree lighting ceremony was also attended by 4th-grade students of Ozolnieki Secondary School. They took part in creative workshops and made special cone decorations for the Christmas tree. "We have built our successful cooperation with Ozolnieki Secondary School in our traditional meetings and working together in natural science project weeks. Therefore we were happy to invite the children to the Christmas tree lighting event. They loved the activities in workshops, they said that next year they could not only make cone owls, cats or rabbits, but also try their hand in the Advent wreath making," says Solveiga Rasnača, the manager of the nursery's sales area.
In the festive event children also had an opportunity to play different games, decorate the Christmas tree, as well as take part in a fun questionnaire about the forest and nature. As the dark set in, accompanied by winter songs, the festive adornment of the nursery lit up in all its beauty. Visitors and drivers can see the splendid Christmas tree when travelling along the road Jelgava - Ozolnieki.
Next to the wide range of fir-trees grown in pots, this year the nursery offers for sale festive decorations made in “LVM Sēklas un stādi” nurseries and LVM Kalsnava Arboretum: traditional and practical ornaments, which have acquired an unconventional and special shape, such as Advent wreaths made of Canaan Fir needles or of braided cones, dwarf cones to decorate the Christmas tree, as well as decorative balls made of cones and different seeds. Christmas ornaments may also be purchased at LVM Customer Centre at 1 Vaiņodes Street, Riga. The shop is open on weekdays from 9 to 18, and especially for the keenest dwarfs also on Saturday, 3 December from 9 to 18.
In LVM nurseries there are fir-trees of different heights and types: a small pyramid, a nest, a tree with a peculiar sparse crown with a plenty of space for ornaments or, for example, a Christmas tree with a dense crown, which may be decorated with finer and smaller ornaments. A Christmas tree in a pot gives an opportunity to enjoy its beauty for many years, if it is replanted in the home yard. If it is left in the pot, it may grow and spread wide, but in a couple of years it should be replanted in a larger pot and fertilised.
