The second year in a row, with the beginning of the new school year, JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” (LVM) in collaboration with Pigman – the patron of clean forest and a tree fan – invites kindergartens from all around Latvia to participate in the adventurous eco programme “Pigman’s Detectives”. The programme is open for applications until 20 September.

Eco program “Pigman’s Detectives” is intended for 5-7-year-old children. It is based on four topics, and through games, dances, songs, fairy tales, and different visualizations kids will solve tasks of detectives. They will assess and reveal the following:

  • Dirty secrets of forest will remind the participants that there is no room for waste in the forest; it is home for wild animals and trees.
  • Following Pigman’s footsteps will provide an opportunity to distinguish between bad and good actions when being outdoors.
  • The forest around us will show the participants that wood is one of the most environment-friendly materials, which is a raw material for wooden beds, tables, and even toys.
  • Grow oxygen will show us that forest is useful not only for long walks, or for collecting forest goodies, but also a place that absorbs carbon dioxide and releases oxygen that is vital for our existence.

Each topic is designed according to the principle of see, hear, listen, take action, at the same time foreseeing active participation in the games. At the end of the school year, the famous Latvian nature friend Pigman will visit 30 the most active kindergartens.

To apply for the program, fill the application on Pigman’s webpage. The first 100 kindergarten classes to apply for the programme will receive the “Secret Bag” with additional study materials. It is also possible to master this program online, using the materials available on the website.

Pigman shares his experience of the previous years, and this year he has intended to make the program even more impressive than before: “Last year almost 3000 kids from 135 classes of 90 Latvian kindergartens mastered the eco program “Pigman’s Detectives”. They learnt that there was no place for waste in the forest. Forest, just like human beings, is alive and requires special attention and care. During the program, children followed in my footsteps and discovered that being in the forest is natural. They also discovered that wood is all around us and it is an environment-friendly material. I am looking forward to new applications!”
