The strong wind spares state forests

Last weekend a cyclone crossed Latvia, as a result, a strong wind took over the whole territory. The operational information of JSC "Latvia’s State Forests" shows that state forests haven’t been significantly affected during the storm.

Out of the eight forestries, some damage was reported in Vidusdaugava and Austrumvidzeme forestries. Some toppled and broken trees have been found in the forest (in a total volume of 2.5 thousand m3).

Identification and reduction of damage are being done in order to organize harvesting of defective trees as soon as possible. In such weather conditions, timber perishes sooner.

Strong breezes in summers are mostly associated with storm clouds and rarely affect wide areas.
