To make the name of Latvia known in far away, distant countries, three young people headed for the expedition "The Longest Road to the Most Faraway Place" to visit the populated place, which is located in the furthest point from Latvia. An oak signpost crafted in JSC "Latvia's State Forests" (LVM) Tērvete woodcarving workshop which has been set up in the 18 thousand kilometre distant Pitt Island, New Zealand, now shows the distance to Latvia.

"It is a wonderful feeling - to be a part of such a significant project, where Latvians demonstrate genuine enthusiasm and love for their country. We are proud!" says Tomass Kotovičs, Head of LVM Communications Department.

Expedition participants - Dainis Pudelis, Ivars Brencis and Laura Garā - crossed the Asian continent, without the use of air traffic. The trip by trains, buses, bicycles, boats and other means of transport to the most faraway place from Riga lasted for almost two years. This way of travelling is full of enthusiasm and unusual experience, which allows you to explore the places that are rarely included in the tourist travel routes. The travellers have captured their adventures, daily life of the inhabitants of the Pitt Island, its nature and history in a documentary film.

The expedition was organised by the association "How Many Roads", founded in 2014 to organise world travel adventures, promoting understanding of different cultures, wealth of cultural heritage, and beauty of nature and people.

In this journey the expedition members once against ascertained that humanity, mutual respect and understanding are values uniting the humanity, and are to be found anywhere in the world.
