Snow day adventures

tornis1111 copy

17 January is the World Snow Day, when families with children are invited to enjoy winter and indulge in activities that are only possible in the snow. You don’t need to be an experienced enthusiast of winter activities to try snowball fight, sledding or skating, or take a peaceful stroll in one of the JSC "Latvia’s State Forests" (LVM) facilities. Or just appreciate the unique beauty of the white tree branches, feeling your boots disappear in the snowdrifts.

Those who prefer active recreation, are invited to visit LVM Nature Park in Tērvete, and during the light hours of the day head for a 10 kilometre long walk through the Dwarfs’ Forest and Fairytale Forest, but if you like snowdrifts – there are a plenty of them in the Park. To have a picturesque view of the forests and fields covered with brilliant white snow, visitors are invited to go up the observation tower (in winter open only on holidays). Park visitors can skate, walk, climb up the Skyways, and have a picnic together with the charming Forest Witch. As dusk sets in, guests can enjoy a play of lights by the new pedestrian bridge - laboratory. The treetops and paths to the bridge, the great pine forest, and the ice-skating rank every day after 5 p.m. glisten in different shades and colours.

immmmm

Active and peaceful activities are possible almost everywhere in the forest. LVM Pokaiņi Forest invites everyone to enjoy the beauty of winter. In the ice-rimmed trees and snow-covered spruces, from time to time the trail is crossed by a squirrel or a doe with its fawn. Here and there a fresh digging of a wild boar – they haven’t gone far. But if you like to try something new – visit LVM Jaunmoku Palace and take a stroll in the park wearing a pair of lovely snowshoes. Even on the thickest snow cover snowshoes allow you to walk without sinking in it. With smaller snow covering they protect you against slipping. In any case - fun is guaranteed, especially enjoying the scenic sights of the palace park.

Have a wonderful time!
