The annual fair of Vislatvijas Skolēnu mācību uzņēmumi (All Latvian Students' Training Enterprises/SMU) took place over the holidays, and LVM honored the most eco-friendly students' training enterprises, which not only made their product using biological materials, but had also thought about eco-friendly packaging.
Student enterprise “Pirtnieces pūra lāde” from Jelgava Spīdola Secondary School received award in category elementary school students for its ethnic Latvian and ecological gifts. Student enterprise “100.REKT” from Liepāja Secondary School of Design and Art received award in category high school students for its ceramic tableware.
The SMU Christmas Fair, organized by “Junior Achievement Latvija” (JA Latvija) on December 12, involved 127 enterprises from 66 Latvian schools, offering their original products, Christmas gifts, all day long. Student enterprise display stands and products were evaluated by an experienced board of judges, according to the following nominations: Most socially-responsible enterprise, Best stand, Most innovative business idea, Best sales team, Most commercial enterprise, Enterprise based on knowledge, and Eco-friendly product – a nomination endorsed by LVM.
Student training enterprise (SMU) is a training enterprise with educational purposes founded and run solely by students. For educational purposes, SMU training enterprise performs functions of a real enterprise and acts in real environments – students manufacture and sell products or services, acquiring practical business skills that can be further improved.
JSC “Latvia's State Forests” has been supporting the “Junior Achievement – Young Enterprise Latvia” program already for four years, awarding enterprises that can introduce their products as eco-friendly.
