Acknowledging the value of the forest and its multiple opportunities, 29 students from Latvian universities and Ogre Technical School will attend courses next semester with support from JSC "Latvian State Forests". Here is a chance to learn about the company's activity and values, acquiring experience and knowledge in preparing research papers and theses, as well as taking part in educational seminars lectured by the company's experts and meeting with industry specialists.
Students believe that LVM's educational seminars are the scholarship's largest asset, as they examine and take hold of things first-hand, not just remain as something in a textbook.
The forest means something different for each LVM scholarship receiver: for some it is a source of love and peace, for others – a place for recreation and athletic activity, or a place for harvesting blueberries and honey. Antons, a student from the Latvian University of Agriculture, says that forest has always played a special role in his life: "I associate forests with my childhood memories, elementary school years, time in high school; now I'm in university and I believe that it will continue in coming years as well. The forest is a place where treasures are hidden – not only economic, but also spiritual."
This semester, LVM issued scholarships to a total of 20 students from various Latvian universities. These students study in various fields such as environmental education and communication, natural protection, wood exploitation, geographical information systems and logistics management, forest management, geological resource management. The scholarship was also issued to eight Ogre Technical School students, who are studying to become forest machine operators and forest management technicians, as well as one promotional scholarship to a freshman who intends to become a forest management technician.
In order to help students grow and study about forestry, JSC "Latvian State Forests" has been organizing the said scholarship competition for several years already. The competition is open to students from various major programs at Latvian universities. Scholarships are also issued to students from Ogre Technical School. The aim is to increase the students' motivation to develop their skill and proficiency, attract specialists at LVM, increase student desire to improve the quality of their studies in fields related to LVM, and support scientific development.
