Over the last two years, the community's opinion of the performance of JSC "Latvijas valsts meži" (Latvia's State Forests) has significantly grown – the number of people who approve of LVM's economic activities has increased 9 percent. The number of residents who believe that the company carries out sustainable management of Latvian forests, ensuring high-grade forest resources for the next generations, according to a study conducted by SKDS.
The number praising LVM's economic activities, creation of new jobs, and increase in profit, has increased as well. "Over the last couple of years, LVM contributed EUR 67.9 million in dividends to the State Treasury. The forest industry currently provides 84,000 jobs. Thus, LVM and the forest industry together provide a significant contribution to Latvia's economy, and the poll shows that increasingly more residents feel that Latvian forests are an important cornerstone of state welfare," says Tomass Kotovics, the head of LVM Communications Department.
The number of residents who are certain that LVM complies with ecological and environmental protection requirements has grown as well. The residents' assessment on the opportunities of spending one's free time in the forest has increased as well. "We are actively working in order to make contributions to Latvia's economy, as well as to make sure that residents who choose to spend their time in forests or LVM's tourist attractions, feel positive changes and enjoy quality time. For example, this year, LVM Nature Park in Tervete revealed the brand new Skyway of Lucky Land. For two years in a row, we are also organizing the Kids' Opera celebrations, as well as maintaining and improving many other recreation opportunities in Latvia's forests," says Kotovics.
The residents also have a positive view of LVM charity policy, which foresees that the company's donations are distributed among professional organizations of respective industries. The most important social responsibilities, the community feels, are concern about clean forests, implementation of various projects in collaboration with municipalities, establishment of new recreational places in forests, care for the employees, and charity for welfare, culture, and sports.
LVM wants to thank one and all for the recognition - highly appreciating the community’s trust.
