PLANT YOUR FUTURE – A VIDEO TALE

In compelling people to realize that trees are the sole renewable resource and its meaning in the future of mankind, the JSC “Latvijas valsts meži” (LVM)/Latvian State Forests/ has produced an educational animation movie called “Plant Your Future”.

Each and every second, more and more people come into this world. For our children to have the green earth to walk on, air to breathe and room to grow sustenance, we must learn to have the twain meet – our daily activity and needs with the resources that are renewable with our own energy.

Tomass Kotovičs, LVM Communications Director, explains: “Trees are actually the only fully renewable matter, who, in growing tall absorb the main culprit for global warming – C02. The number of trees we have is up to us, how many do we plant, care for, to help them grow faster, and using timber more in our daily lives. And dwelling in houses made of wood – a natural CO2 storehouse, cause no decrease in level of comfort.”

56% of Latvian territory is forestland, and one-half of the total is managed by LVM. There, annually, as the tree numbers continue to expand, 15 million tons of CO2 (4.1 million carbon) are added, but the total amount “stored” in all LVM forests at this time is 109 million tons carbon or 400 million tons CO2.
