In terms of proportion of renewable resources, Latvia has been included among the world's top three greenest countries, according to information by the World Economic Forum.
The use of renewable energy resources in Latvia in 2014 increased to 37 percent. Organization REN21, which monitors the global renewable energy resource market, has prepared a report, listing Norway, which uses 65.5 percent of renewable energy, in 1st place, while Sweden is 2nd with 52 percent. About 27 percent of energy is acquired from renewable energy resources in the entire world.
Every year, Davos holds the World Economic Forum, gathering state leaders, high-ranking industry experts, and globally-recognized experts, in order to solve global issues.
Latvia has a huge renewable energy resource potential. One of the most significant and popular local renewable energy resources is wood – not only firewood, but also woodchip, granules, and peat blocks. The growing amount of wood fuel reduces Latvia's dependence on foreign fossil fuel.
