Summer is the time when trees, planted in forest territories run by JSC "Latvia's State Forests" (LVM), are flourishing. Every year, the company organizes Forest Days with the aim of facilitating society's understanding about the forest and forest industry in Latvia. This year, a record number of 8,308 people took part in 235 events during the Forest Days with great accomplishments.
A forest is the place where one can observe what the company does and how it runs things, which is why participants of the Forest Days were given the opportunity to witness, explore, feel, and perform. As part of the Forest Days, this year, a total of 118 hectares of forest land were planted with trees, 920 bird-cages were set up, and 244 cubic meters of garbage were collected.
"The main reason why JSC "Latvia's State Forests" organizes Forest Days is to educate society about responsible forest management. This is a way how the company is implementing one of its strategic goals – to motivate people to be mindful of their attitude toward forest environments. The seasoned traditions of the Forest Days are followed by planting trees and cleaning the environment. I am glad that every year, the event is attended by larger numbers, which means that the number of residents who feel responsible about their surrounding environment keeps growing," says Kaspars Rize, senior forest expert at LVM.
Every spring, JSC "Latvia's State Forests" invites schools and other nature friends to participate in the annual Forest Days all over Latvia – to plant forests, set up bird-cages, and clean up the environment.
This spring, LVM has planted more than 22 million high-grade seedlings in an area of 7,592 hectares, as well as added new ones to the existing plantations in an area of 1,166 hectares. The company has also planted a new pine-tree forest in an area of 64.5 hectares, using 21 kilograms of seeds.
JSC "Latvia's State Forests" wants to thank all of the Forest Day participants for the huge response and effort!
