As part of the International Day of Forests, forest friends gathered by the Freedom Monument to take a joint photo while holding bright-yellow and red grow tubes and actual growing seedlings from the forest. On March 21, the entire world celebrates the International Day of Forests in order to attract attention to the importance and value of forests.
Forests in Latvia are restored in both natural and artificial ways. Every felled tree is replaced by two new ones. As a result of natural factors and human activities, the proportion of forest area since 1920s has doubled.
The theme of the 2015 International Day of Forests is "Forests and climate changes" – regardless of ecological, economic, and social benefits the forest offers to people; deforestation continues to increase in the world, affecting climate.
