Award ceremony for winners of State Environmental Project Olympiad

On May 29, an award ceremony was held for the winners of the State Environmental Project Olympiad. The authors of the best projects and their teachers, who had encouraged and supported them, participated in the ceremony.

This year, gold medals went to Rīga Zolitūde Gymnasium eleventh-grader Iļja Leiko, his teacher and adviser Olga Ķēniņa, Pumpuri Secondary School No.9 eighth-grader Rūdolfs Pļaviņš and his teacher and adviser Vēsma Vijupe.

Both students had returned from the International Environmental Project Olympiad with bronze medals. The awards also went to pupils from Zemgale Secondary School, Rugāji Region Secondary School, Tabore Primary School, Druviena Primary School, Rudzāti Secondary School, Aizpute Secondary School, Balvi State Gymnasium, Jaunpiebalga Secondary School, Vaiņode Secondary School, Cēsis State Gymnasium, Rīga Secondary School No. 88 and Vecpiebalga Secondary School, who unfortunately were not able take part in the ceremony.

Supporters of the Olympiad and the ceremony were JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” and “Zaļā josta”. Once again, the companies prepared wonderful surprises for the pupils and students, who had the opportunity to meet Cūkmens (Pigman), plant their own trees, have a joint coffee break, visit the Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia and bring home the board game “Let’s Grow Forests!”
