After the long-lasting winter, the new planting season began in the forests managed by JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” on April 22.
As usual, Dienvidkurzeme and Zemgale foresters were the first ones to begin the job. They will be accompanied by colleagues in the rest of Latvia within a week. JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” Silviculture Director Mārtiņš Gūtmanis: “The last three years of observation indicate that, when spring comes late, the gap between the start of forest planting in Latvia’s western and eastern regions is smaller. In May, forest planting will be in full swing throughout Latvia. 1,800 to 2,000 hectares will be planted each week.”
JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” will plant 10,200 hectares this year, of which 8,700 will be planted this spring. Overall, 15,700 hectares will be regenerated in 2013.
