Only one species of fish is evaluated in each lake in JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” competition on the largest fish - carp in the Tērvete Reservoir, perch in Lake Lielauce, pike in Lake Kaņieris and Lake Gulbju, zander in Lake Zebrus. The largest fish are weighed, measured, photographed and evaluated each month and the season’s results are summarized in November.
The fish did not have much of an appetite in October. The month was too warm and they did not gulp down everything in their sight to gain weight ahead of winter. The largest pike was caught by Gunārs Grikovs on Lake Kaņieris – 5.280 kilograms. There were no significant catches in other lakes.
The winners of 2012 have been announced as well – Lake Gulbju pike were cautious, the largest one weighed 1.890 kilograms and was pulled out by Juris Sivgals. Vladimirs Siņickis reeled in a 10.780 kilogram pike in Lake Kaņieris. Normunds Januzis caught a 5.900 kilogram carp in Tērvete Reservoir, Juris Sivgals – a 0.550 kilogram perch in Lake Lielauce, Anatolijs Ivanovs – a 6.780 kilogram zander in Lake Zebrus. We are also proud to add that Sivgals pulled out both of his record fish during the “Mammadaba” Spin Fishing Championship.
