On September 28, when the world marked “FSC Friday”, “Latvia’s State Forests” (LVM) marked it by certifying all state forests in compliance with the internationally-recognised FSC principles and criteria.
The FSC certification is a process during which accredited, independent and competent auditors assess whether a company’s forest management corresponds to previously-set FSC standards. Several independent international certification organizations carried it out in Latvia’s state forests – “Certification Systems”, “Soil Association Woodmark” and “SGS South Africa (Pty) Ltd”. They concluded that LVM manages state forests in accordance with the highest standards.
JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” Board Chairman Roberts Strīpnieks: “The FSC certificate is an international testimony to high level management in state forests. It is a proof that a balance has been achieved among economic, ecological and social needs and that Latvia’s forests will be preserved for future generations.”
The FSC forest management certificate is recognised by consumers throughout the world, as indicated by more than 150 million hectares of FSC certified forests worldwide.
