As previously reported, the July 29 storm did not cause considerable damage to state forests. However, separate locations were affected.
After collecting information on the largest areas of downed trees, it has been established that separate trees or small groves have suffered damage in the area of 282 hectares. Continuous tree-falls have been established in the area of 7.3 hectares. Operational information indicates that a total of 8,400 cubic metres have been damaged, with coniferous trees accounting for 70 percent of all cases.
JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” Silviculture Director Mārtiņš Gūtmanis: “The heaviest damage has been observed in the Usma Forest District of the Northern Kurzeme Forestry, where the storm downed trees in the area of 184 hectares, including four hectares of continuous tree-falls.
Preparations are now underway to gather and remove all of the fallen trees in the shortest possible amount of time.”
