Mammadaba embassies offer Forest Career Days

To boost interest in various career opportunities in the forestry sector, nine Latvian schools – Mammadaba embassies – will hold Forest Career Days from March 19 to March 23. Pupils will be able to participate in interesting activities led by “Latvia’s State Forests” (LVM) staff members.

The pupils will have two lectures to become familiar with how “Latvia’s State Forests” works, the importance of forests in global environmental processes, LVM representative’s personal experience and practical pieces of advice. They will also be able to find out about educational opportunities in the forest sector and practice with forestry tools, for example, estimating tree sizes and ages.

The Forest Career Days will take place at Tukums E.Birznieks-Upītis Primary School No 1 (March 19), Saulkrasti Secondary School, Gulbene Bērzi Primary School, Dzimtmisa Primary School and Ventspils Secondary School No 4 (March 20), Rīga Teika Secondary School (March 21), Ēdole Primary School (March 22), Eglaine Primary School and Birži Primary School (March 23).

“The forest sector is prospective and technologically developed. It is open for young, knowledgeable and skilful specialists. Nowadays, one must start thinking about his/her future profession already during school years to purposefully advance and gain success in the chosen sector,” believes LVM Communications Department Head Tomass Kotovičs.

In the 2011/2012 school year, LVM and the State Education Content Centre reached a friendly agreement with a common goal to bring schools closer to nature, accrediting nine of Latvia’s greenest schools as Mammadaba embassies, where you are invited to catch your breath, gain knowledge and become familiar with the most beautiful recreation areas in Latvia!

The Forest Career Days are organized by LVM within the framework of theenvironmental education programme “Learn About A Forest” and are held for the third year. The programme is based on gaining practical knowledge, experience and skills, while being in direct contact with environment and forests.
