MOLE OPENS MAMMADABA CARTOON MORNINGS THIS SPRING SEASON

Joint-stock company “Latvia’s State Forests” resumes the Mammadaba Cartoon Mornings – educational film screenings and events telling children about nature – with one of the world’s most popular cartoon heroes, the Mole. Before the screenings, the audience will have a chance to have eye-to-eye encounters with forest animals from the Puppet Theatre, as well as have their faces painted to help them imagine being an animal of their choice.

In co-operation with the Czech Embassy in Riga, a selection of animated films about the Mole will be screened during the Mammadaba Cartoon Morning session, with all of them united by the subject of nature. In these cartoons, various objects that people drop or lose in the forest – bubble gum, umbrellas, phones – are found by the Mole. Although none fits in a forest, the Mole always finds a way to put these objects to good use.

For a long time, Czech artist Zdenek Miler could not find any animal that would not have been used before by Walt Disney in his cartoons, until one day he stumbled on a molehill, and knew at once who his hero would be! And that is how the Mole was born in 1956. The series were followed by many others for several decades: the small Mole may be doing all kinds of things and meeting all sorts of animals, but he always remains kind-hearted, bold – and very curious. Miler died last November at the age of 90, but the Mole with his sparkling little eyes, hearty laugh and exciting adventures still continues to entertain people: both adults, who may remember the Mole from their childhood, as well as their kids, many of whom will meet the Mole for the first time.

The events organised as part of Mammadaba Cartoon Mornings, the films screened and the educational part are all meant to let children themselves notice things, think and understand – Mother Nature is generous, it is all around us, it cares for us – and we can respond by doing the same.

Mammadaba Cartoon Morning screenings will be held on Saturday, March 10, at 12 noon at the Large hall of the Splendid Palace cinema

The next Mammadaba Cartoon Mornings will take place in April and May.

Tickets cost LVL 2 for adults, LVL 1.50 for children (children under 6 who sit in their parent’s lap may come for free).

Screening duration: approximately 1 h.
