Video animation explains forest management

To inform the general public about the cycle of forest management and its planning principles in state forests, LVM offers an informative video animation.

Latviais among Europe’s most forest-abundant countries, since forests cover around 3.6 million hectares or 54 percent of its territory. LVM manages approximately one half of this area.

LVM is in charge of 1.62 million hectares, including 1.59 million hectares of forestland, where the company’s forest management ensures implementation of ecological and social functions, preserving and increasing the value of state forests and their revenue. The functional zoning of LVM territories is designed in compliance with these principles, demonstrating varied forest management goals.

Growing forests also means taking care of them. By properly and duly nurturing forest stands, it is possible to increase timber production and income levels. The total annual growth in LVM forests amounts to 12 million cubic metres of timber, whilst the average felling – five to seven million cubic metres. This ensures the ongoing renewal of timber resources.
